Special Victims Unit Seizes Gun from Domestic Violence Abuser (Photo)

On November 25, 2023, just after 1:00 a.m., Central Precinct officers were dispatched to a domestic violence disturbance in the 200 Block of Northwest Couch Street. Officers were told by a family member of a woman that her male partner had two guns and was refusing to let her leave. The victim was eventually able to make her way out of the residence; however, the suspect followed her and told her several times he was going to kill her.

Officers contacted the victim and learned that in addition to threatening the victim with a gun, the suspect strangled her while preventing her from leaving. Shortly after the interview, officers located the suspect and took him into custody.

Investigators with Portland’s Special Victims Unit were made aware of this case. They applied for and were granted a warrant to search the suspect’s apartment and seize the firearm used to threaten and intimidate the victim. On November 30, 2023, investigators executed the search warrant and located a black revolver and several boxes of ammunition. The suspect is a convicted felon, so additional gun charges are expected in addition to the already charged domestic violence crimes.

This investigation is ongoing. The name of the suspect is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
