During the evening of May 1, 2020, Portland Police Bureau Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) officers were conducting focused patrol in an area of East Precinct where recent gun violence incidents have taken place.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near Southeast 127 Avenue and Southeast Stark Street at 7:40 p.m. The vehicle eluded police, but was soon located in a business parking lot a short distance away. Officers coordinated a search with the assistance of patrol officers and a canine unit, and were able to locate and arrest the driver. Officers located a .9mm Ruger EC9s handgun discarded on the search path (photo) and also learned the vehicle had struck another car prior to parking in this location.

19-year-old Faisal Osman (photo) was charged with Reckless Driving, Fail to Perform Duty of a Driver, and Attempting to Elude Police. Osman was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The Gun Violence Reduction Team continues to interdict gun violence citywide.
